When Should You Hire A Professional Landscape Architect
I came across a great article/video featuring a professional landscape architect and author of three books, Steven L Cantor, and he discusses modern trends and how to maximize the use of outdoor living areas.
In the video he discusses organizing outdoor spaces in small areas by linking spaces and tying together where certain elements should go in relation to others. One example is planting certain trees that have white blossoming flowers to match the existing white facade of the building.
One trend he mentioned is how people who live in the city like to utilize their outdoor living spaces as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. Water features can mask the sounds of the city such as traffic, sirens, to construction to create a better ambiance and peaceful environment.
He also mentions that other popular trends are beautiful elegant pavements, Asian style gardens and incorporating simple elegant lines which compliment the existing architecture versus competing with it.
Cantor also talks about the growing popularity of green roofs and roof gardens as a form of modern water and energy conservation practice.
Although the article/video focuses mainly on inner city landscape architecture and how to best utilize the space one has, he makes some interesting points on the simplicity of lines tying together different spaces.
What he does not discuss is fire pits and how they can create a natural gathering spot for socializing and entertaining, but considering this article/video focuses on inner city living, I can understand that including a fire pit feature in the middle of New York is most likely illegal for one, and impractical for two, makes sense.
However, including a few tiki torches would make a lovely and safe addition to an inner city patio area and could help accent the areas of focus by shedding some natural fire burning feature light on it without the installation of a large fire pit system.
However, for all of you out there who DO NOT live in the city, look us up for all of your fire pit and fire burning system needs. Till next time, happy designing!
